Could This Be the End to Starving Writers and Artists? TipMash Thinks So.
Have you really ever stopped to think what makes the Internet so wonderful and terribly addicting? The place you keep returning over and over again? It is that inspiring graphic quote that showed up on your social media newsfeed that made you say enough Monsanto! It is that video that taught you how to survive in a forest with only a knife. It is that article that gave you the courage to walk away from a toxic relationship with your head held high. It is that research paper that helped you to make a conscious health decision. It is that photograph that enlightened you to a newly discovered underground city. It is the free application you downloaded that helps you meditate. It is that football blog that analyzes all of the college stats so you can talk with the best of them. It is that stunning painting captured digitally that allowed you to see life in a grander way. It is that one friend that finds and shares all of the best articles, quotes, music and videos on your favorite social network. It is that out-of-this-world recipe that was the hit of the party.
We all love the Internet for our own reasons and behind each of them are creative artists that for the most part go largely unpaid for their time, energy and gifts to the world.
When Brad and I launched The MissStory, we asked the question, ‘How can we make this new media platform financially sustainable for our brilliant writers?’ We knew each of them had beautiful insights that needed to be shared and we wanted to ease their financial situation in any way we could so that they could use their time to devote to their gifts and sharing their experiences with all of us. We got the answer! Brad is an amazing business partner; and thankfully he literally can create anything we can think up. Through a series of coincidences we were struck with the idea to design digital tip jars, so readers who were moved or benefitted from the writer’s articles could have a way to show them some love.
What started out as something to do internally, turned into the realization we had something to share with everyone.
TipMash™ is our answer, one a little bigger than when we started; it has evolved into being what we hope will inspire a new paradigm. TipMash™ is a quick, smooth, and easy way for readers, friends, family, and fans to show some love to the amazing artists that make the Internet such a treasure by giving a buck or two tip. We believe people want a way to support NEW Media and to help keep the Internet free and flowing with awesomeness and in the hands of those who create it.
We are also showing what social capitalism can look like.
In the month ahead we will also be releasing what we are calling the TipMash I M Wire, an Independent Media wire service for all of our members to access and submit press releases, articles, videos and all other content. All TipMash members will be able to freely use the content on their own websites and other platforms as long as they keep the original creator’s TipMash link within it. Essentially this has allowed for the effortless syndication for member content.
